We spent a very nice day floating the lima, and I want to thank the team, especially our guide Juan, who took very good care of us. Unfortunately, we couldn't fish, we weren't lucky, the weather wasn't on our side, but Juan's commitment to trying to satisfy our desire stood out. to get a big brown from the limay

Very professional. Together with my brother, we floated on the upper Limay River, which we didn't know. The guide instructed us before starting since we had no experience. We were able to catch some trout and had a fantastic day. I recommend them without hesitation. We will be back!

LIMAY RIVER

The Limay River, just 12 miles from Bariloche, offers an unparalleled fishing adventure amidst the Patagonian steppe. From the early season’s rainbow runs to summer’s hatches and the thrilling pursuit of migratory brown trout, the Limay promises diverse and exciting opportunities for every angler.

Highlights:

  • Location: 12 miles from Bariloche; ideal for floating.
  • Early Season (Nov-Dec): High waters, rainbow trout spawning—best for streamers.
  • Summer (Dec-Jan): Caddis and mayfly hatches—dries and emergers shine.
  • Late Summer (Feb-Mar): Lower waters, technical nymphing.
  • End of Season (Apr-May): Big migratory browns, perfect for streamer fishing.

The Limay is a challenging, yet rewarding experience for those seeking the fish of a lifetime.

MANSO RIVER

Located at the South edge of Nahuel Huapi National Par, Manso river meanders through dense and old-growth forest, connecting several lakes on its journey. This makes it an excellent option to find pleasure in an incredible day surrounded by the unique cold patagonian forest in the centre of Patagonian Andes. It might be even difficult to concentrate on fishing due to the stunning scenery around us.

We float in a cataraft for 6 miles. Manso is a middle size river with extraordinarily clear emerald and pristine waters, some rapids and huge pools that hold strong and beautiful browns and rainbows trout.

Highlights:

  • Location: 1h 40 minutes from Bariloche; ideal for floating.
  • Early Season (Nov): High waters, rainbow and nice brown trout— Sinking lines and streamers.
  • Summer (Dec-Jan): Big dragons and damsels hatch. – Floating line and big dry flies time!!.
  • Late Summer (Feb-Mar): Lower waters, technical nymphing and small dries. – Wading is possible.

COLLON CURA RIVER

Definitely, this is the most advisable option for a two or three nights expedition.

With almost 30 miles long, Collón Cura River offers us the remarkable chance to fish one of the most productive rivers along the whole Patagonian area.

Located at Northeast side of Bariloche City, the river is full of countless secondary channels and islands covered with willow trees on the shores. Collon Cura river is a highly productive freestone with lots of food: minnows, fresh-crabs or “pancoras”, grasshoppers, inchworms, mayflies, caddis…

Highlights:

  • Location: 1h 45 minutes from Bariloche; Overnight float trip.
  • Early Season (Nov): High waters — Sinking lines and streamers. Fishing on secondary channels.
  • Summer (Dec-Jan): Plenty of hatches (mainly mayflies and caddis).
  • Late Summer (Feb-Mar): Lower waters. Massive inchworms hatch and hundreds of trout against the bank under the willow trees eating them. Wading is possible.
  • End of season (Mar-Apr-May): thousands of puyens (small local minnows) start the reproductive run from the reservoir to the river and that is why Brown and Rainbow trout get together for a feast. Streamers fishing time again. Wading is possible.

TRAFUL RIVER

Without question, this is one of the most popular and marvellous rivers in North Patagonia, land of Landlocked Salmon.

The Traful River is 16 miles long, stretching from its source in Traful Lake to its confluence with the Limay River. It is a middle size river mainly easy to wade.

In spite of its difficulties, Traful River is generous with those persistent and well-behaved anglers because trophies come in the shape of more than 20 inches trout and 26-27 inches landlocked salmons.

The only way to enjoy this river is by wading it and we will find this pleasure in the Lodge Estancia Arroyo Verde because it is located in the most highly productive miles of the river.

Highlights:

  • Location: Northeast side of Nahuel Huapi National Park, 60 miles away from Bariloche City. Wading fishing.
  • Early Season (Nov-mid Dec): High waters — Sinking lines and streamers.
  • Summer (late Dec-Jan): Floating lines and big dry flies.

  • Late Summer (Feb-Mar-Apr): Low water. Easy wading. Nymphs and some particular streamers.

PICHILEUFU RIVER

On the East side, one hour drive from Bariloche City, “Pichi” shares with us an amusing steppe landscape with rocky formations beautifully sculpted by the wind.
In the Mapuche language, “Pichi” means small and “leufu”, river. This is the accurate description of it and that’s why it is easier than others to wade. In addition, there is a great amount of Brown and Rainbow trout (6 to 17 inches) which makes this river the ideal environment for fly fishing beginners. No long cast required in this typical steppe river: run/riffle/pool.
Normally, we use floating lines with dry flies and nymphs, and during the first month of the season, we also use some small streamers.

CALEUFU RIVER

Located 2 hours northeast of Bariloche. It goes through 30 miles of private land so the fishing pressure is almost null! You should stay not less than two or three nights, you won’t regret it.
A “transition” forest zone is followed by a fantastic mountainous valley full of local trees, especially the Cypress kind. Further down the river, the landscape starts to change slowly into a dry and arid zone called Patagonian steppe. Andean condors, red deer and wild boars are part of the fauna that will follow us along our adventure.
Rainbows, Brown trout and perch (a local fish similar to the Small Mouth Bass) are the kind of fish we will find during this trip. Mostly regular size (10-20 inches) but if we are lucky maybe a longer one might appear.
Mainly streamers and sinking lines are used at the beginning of season and then, summer brings the chance to use floating lines, dry flies and nymphs.
Caleufu River can only be visited between November and mid January because of the low level of the water during the rest of the season.

FONCK LAKE

No doubt this is one of the most highly productive lakes in the area.

Because it is situated at the extreme West part of Nahuel Huapi National Park, it is difficult to access but we can still arrive there in two hours by truck from Bariloche City.

It is enclosed in a deep and wide valley surrounded by majestic mountains where Cerro Tronador is the main attraction, and thick and spectacular native forest of Coihues, Ñires and Lengas as well.

This lake has an extraordinary structure that holds a considerable amount of Brown, Rainbow and Fontinalis trout from 14 to 24 inches long. Its cost line is full of obstacles and natural happenings like fallen trees, flats, reeds, sinked trunks, big walls, deep drop-offs and tributary streams.

We can only fish from a motor boat. Sinking lines and small streamers are used at the beginning of the season to fish at the drop-offs but floating lines can be used searching for trout that are trying to catch Dragons and Damsels flies nymphs at the back-waters.

Summer time gives us the chance to change to floating lines and big atractors above the surface. Everyone in the area is waiting for this moment to come because trout get crazy trying to catch Dragon and Damselflies on the top so the sight-fishing show is amazing to be watched.

Are you ready to be a part of this event???!!!

HESS LAKE

Hess Lake is considered a middle size lake. It is located in the Southeast area of Nahuel Huapi National Park and just 1 h 30 minutes away from Bariloche City.

One of the most productive environments of the area, this lake is surrounded by incredible scenery of thick native forest full of Coihues and Ñires trees and a shore-line covered with reeds.

“Los Canales” is a typical Hess area that divides itself in different channels, of very slow current with abundant underwater flora, that further down becomes Manso River.

A great amount of Rainbow and Fontinalis trout (12-20 inches) and Browns that may reach 25 inches length is the kind of fish we can find here.

We can only fish from a raft or a drift boat because motor boats are not allowed.

Streamers and sinking lines simulating Dragonflies nymphs are the way we fish when the season begins.

Summer time brings us the chance to use floating lines and big dry flies matching the incredible hatches of Dragons and Damsels. It is a unique time where fish take the fly above the surface in a violent and sudden way.

Along the channels, we have the chance to fish with small Mayflies and Caddis dry flies and nymphs matching the hatches that happen during the season.

ROCA LAKE

In Nahuel Huapi National Park, 1h 30 minutes Southeast away from Bariloche City, Roca lake is located in a deep and wide valley surrounded by woods full of native trees like Cohiues, Lengas and some Alerces trees (millennial kind).

The kind of structure and line-bank is pretty similar to Fonck Lake. Natural obstacles like down trees, big flats, reeds, sinked trunks, huge walls, deep drop-offs and some tributary streams that end in the lake. This is why it is the ideal place to find that trophy you are looking for. Giant Brown trout – 26/27 inches long- hide in the depths…

Rainbow and Fontinalis trout can also be fished here in an average size (14-20 inches) from the motor boat that we use during the whole trip.

The fishing technique is alike the one we use at Fonk lake, trying with big dry flies (Dragons and Chernobyls) at the reeds, in many cases a sight-fishing, and as well using streamers with sinking lines above the drop-offs and deep areas.
